{"id":4249,"date":"2022-12-14T11:41:45","date_gmt":"2022-12-14T09:41:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/studyguide.gr\/sg\/?p=4249"},"modified":"2023-07-03T15:34:07","modified_gmt":"2023-07-03T12:34:07","slug":"new-300k-virtual-studio-to-bring-students-creative-vision-to-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/studyguide.gr\/sg\/spoudes\/ekpedefsi-sti-vretania\/4249\/new-300k-virtual-studio-to-bring-students-creative-vision-to-life\/","title":{"rendered":"New \u00a3300k virtual studio to bring students\u2019 creative vision to life at University of Sunderland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Work is now complete on a new 4K-UHD virtual studio at the University of Sunderland.<\/p>\n<p>Installed at the University\u2019s David Puttnam Media Centre at the Sir Tom Cowie Campus, St Peter\u2019s, the new facility will give students the opportunity to gain practical experience in latest-generation virtual studio production techniques.<\/p>\n<p>The \u00a3300,000 system includes a Mo-Sys StarTracker Studio with a camera tracking unit, wireless-linked handheld StarTracker Viewfinder and high-grade green-screen walls and flooring.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sunderland.ac.uk\/about\/staff\/media\/craigmoore\/\">Craig Moore<\/a>, Senior TV Technician at the University of Sunderland, said: \u201cWe wanted to be able to offer something other universities currently can\u2019t. The success of The Mandalorian television series, and the publicity about how it was created, opened our eyes to the process of live virtual production.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur hope was to replicate a similar type of setup which would position our university at the forefront of this new production method within the higher education sector. With this new system we can create large sets at no cost and turn our studios into anything our students can think of.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis investment will also help us forge new relationships with external companies, whether it be production companies, football clubs and the local council. An unobtrusive LED element on the camera shines light on the stars, defining the star map which allows StarTracker to report position, rotation and lens data accurately and in real-time. It will enable our students to really innovate with technology still so new that the possibilities are still uncharted. This is an exciting new area for us to be leading in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sunderland.ac.uk\/about\/staff\/journalism-and-pr\/leehall\/\">Lee Hall<\/a>, Head of the University\u2019s School of Media and Communications, said: \u201cThis investment in virtual production is great news for our students, who will have the opportunity to experiment and innovate with cutting edge technology.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want our students to have the tools to realise their creative vision, with the support of expert staff. This technology provides a powerful way to bring content to life and scale up their ambitions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fact it can bring together production specialists, performers, animators and even coders opens up even more exciting collaborations.
